In her more than 2 decades of active involvement with, and leadership within, the Australian Chinese community, Daphne Lowe Kelly has worked tirelessly toward ensuring the participation and recognition of Chinese Australians in broader society.
During this time, she has taken a particular interest in mentoring Chinese Australian women and elevating their voices, as well as supporting those who aspire to positions of leadership. Daphne generously gives her time, wisdom, support and guidance to younger women who are seeking to navigate all spheres of public life and leadership, from politics to the arts.
Daphne’s long track record of advocacy and public leadership has set an inspiring example for other Asian Australian women.
Harmful racist stereotypes that paint Asian Australian women as apolitical and submissive still abound, and it is incredibly important for younger generations to see these stereotypes challenged.
