Kristine Hewett | For Making a Feminist Difference in Community Activism

Kristine set up and runs Adamas Nexus post-crisis domestic violence support groups for women who have been subjected to violence, abuse or intimidation.

Many women have been assisted by attending these groups, with over 300 around Australia because of their online capacity. These support groups provide community, connection, and corroboration.

Adamas Nexus assists women in getting out of the abuse cycle by showing them that there are others who have experienced abuse but have survived without returning to the abusive situation. Adams Nexus provides the long-term support to make this possible.

Adamas Nexus is unique in its format which aims for long-term support of survivors of abuse. It complements Counsellors, Psychiatrists, Therapists, other support groups, and Mental Health plans. It allows survivors to return to the group at times during their lives when they feel alone, vulnerable, and in need of support. Attendees are of varying ages from mid 20s through to late 60s with varying socio-economic status.

Ensuring survivors know they are not alone by hearing similar stories, experiences, and emotions enables them to speak in a confidential and supportive environment, and positively affects this complex social problem.
